2026 WAFCON Qualifiers: Black Queens set to face Rwanda or Egypt in second round

The Black Queens of Ghana will face either Rwanda or Egypt in the qualifiers for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Under the guidance of coach Nora Hauptle, the team aims to secure back-to-back qualifications after already earning a spot in next year’s tournament.

A total of 38 African nations will compete for one of the 12 spots in the final tournament, alongside host nation Morocco.

This marks the third consecutive time Morocco will host Africa’s premier women’s football competition.

South Africa, along with Zambia, Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, Nigeria, and Cameroon, are among the six nations exempt from the first round due to their high FIFA rankings.

Ghana, having received a bye in the first round, will begin their campaign in the second round against the winner of the match between Rwanda and Egypt.

The qualification process will consist of two rounds of home-and-away fixtures, ensuring thrilling and crucial matchups.

The first round will be held from February 17 to 26, 2025, while the second round is scheduled for October 20 to 28, 2025.
