Police in the North East Region have successfully arrested three Fulani armed robbers but one other died during a shootout with the police after they attacked some traders on the Kolguna Junction last Saturday at about 6:30pm.
According to the police sources available to MyNewsGh.com, the robbers – Amadu Sumana, Hamidu Issaka, Muhamadu and Musah Alima – had ambushed the traders who were returning from the Gbandabila Market at the Kolguna Junction at gunpoint and dispossessed them of all their wares and other personal possessions.
Police rushed to the crime scene but upon their arrival, the robbers had completed their heinous deed and bolted. The police picked up important information from the scene and returned to their station.
Later upon a tip-off, the police swooped on the robbers at their hideout at Kukpo village near Gbintiri in the Gambaga District along but the armed robbers would not be arrested with a fight.
They immediately opened fire on the police leading to an exchange of fire between them and the police. This shootout lead to the death of Mahamadu while the rest sustained varying degrees of injury.
Items retrieved from them include: a short single barrel gun, a locally manufactured Sten gun, 17 pistol ammunition in a magazine, 10 AAA cartridges, a rope, a hood, 3 mobile phones, 2 hats, 3 packets of royal cigarettes and a nose mask.
Body of the deceased has since been deposited at the Baptist Medical Hospital in Nalerigu whereas the two other wounded robbers have been treated and discharged.
