Ghana Meteo Sends SoS Message As Harmattan Sets In
A senior meteorologist at the Ghana Meteorological Agency(GMA) Joshua Asamoah has urged citizens to take more water as the harmattan sets in.
In an interview with Adom News, Mr. Asamoah explained that, there will be significant changes in weather patterns this year, heightening the intensity of the heat waves.
“We are experiencing an unusual increase in temperatures, and it is important for the public to take the necessary precautions to stay healthy and hydrated,” Asamoah said.
He emphasized the need for particular attention to vulnerable groups, especially babies, and called on parents to take extra care during this period.
“Parents should make sure their babies are well-hydrated and shielded from the direct sun to prevent dehydration and heat-related illnesses,” he advised.
In addition to staying hydrated, Mr. Asamoah urged food vendors to take necessary precautions to protect their products and customers.
“Food vendors must ensure their food is properly covered, wear nose masks, and avoid open flames to prevent fire hazards, which can be more easily sparked during this dry period,” he said.
As part of the safety advisory, the meteorologist also warned fishermen to remain vigilant while at sea, as the Harmattan season often brings reduced visibility.
“Fishermen need to be cautious, as the Harmattan can significantly reduce visibility, making it more difficult to navigate safely on the water,” he cautioned.
Mr. Joshua Asamoah also assured the public that Gmet will continue to monitor weather conditions and provide updates as necessary.
