A British man has been arrested by police on suspicion of assaulting his wife a few hours after they got married during a holiday in Mallorca.
The unnamed groom is said to have beaten his bride to their wedding party after getting too much to drink.
The incident occurred on Friday at an unnamed location in the tourist town of Peguera in the municipality of Calvia the same day that they tied ties nearby.
Local reports say police were called just before 7p.m. 21, after the Briton ‘became violent’ when he celebrated the couple’s big day.
Island newspaper Ultima Hora said officers had to restrain him before arresting him after being informed he had assaulted the bride.
The woman is said to have left the scene and later returned, unaware that he had been taken into police custody, to look for him.
Civil Guard officers took charge of the case after the arrest by local police.
It was not immediately clear yesterday whether he had appeared before a judge in a closed court hearing.
The ‘assaulted’ bride is believed to have refused to raise charges, although there has been no official confirmation yet.
